Jacoby Ballard has been meditating for 15 years, practicing yoga for 12 years, and teaching for 10 years. He received his 200-hour certification from Kashi Atlanta, and his 500-hour Advanced Yoga Teacher certification from Kripalu. He is now studying Ayurveda (sister-science of yoga) at the Dinacharya Institute in New York City, that allow him to deepen his teaching and healing by combining herbs and yoga. Through his study, Jacoby is expanding his understanding of the philosophy and wisdom that underlies these ancient healing systems of India. Since 2008, he is the co-owner and founder of Third Root Community Health Center (www.thirdroot.org). Third Root focuses on collaboration sharing and making ancient healing arts accessible, giving a sense of empowerment to the community. Third Root is located in Flatbush, Brooklyn, NY.
Calia Marshall dove head first into her yoga practice in 2000 when she noticed the transformative effects it was having on her life. Calia’s teaching has been greatly influenced by the vinyasa flow and heart-moving style of yoga she delved into in her teaching certification at Laughing Lotus Yoga Center in 2002. She has received amazing knowledge about alignment and back care through her advanced study with Johnathan FitzGordon and Alison West. And she has studied with Cathy Calderon, who constantly reminds her of the healing power of yoga, dance, ritual and prayer. Her classes combine flowing asana, full breath, stories and poems, exploration, and occasionally partner yoga and chanting. Also a professional dancer, acrobat, singer, Reiki practitioner, and an educator of children, Calia makes space for all of these practices to find their way into her classes. Calia is so honored to share her curiosity, fascination and love of movement, music, and magic-making with her students and peers.
